Covid 19 Risk Assessment 12th May 2020

Due to the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak, we will be charging an extra £10 per groom or per household if you are bringing more than one dog. Whilst the social distancing rules are in place, we have to limit the number of dogs that we allow in the salon and we also have to thoroughly disinfect the salon in between each appointment. This is to keep the staff, the dogs and you, our valued customers, safe. Thank you for understanding.

Social distancing

In order to protect staff and clients, social distancing to 2 metres must be adhered to, wherever possible. Grooming equipment should be moved to a safe distance in order to provide this if required. The distancing requirement has reduced the number of groomers who can be in the salon at one time and therefore limiting the availability.

Face mask to be worn when answering the telephone or immediate disinfection used on the equipment after use if a face mask is not in place at the time of telephone usage.

Arrival /Departure

Salon Staff must wear PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) face mask and gloves when admitting animals and in all face to face communication with clients.

Only one dog per groomer can be admitted at one time. There is no facility to kennel dogs prior to their groom, so it must be impressed upon owners that punctuality in pick up is imperative, as the next customer cannot be admitted until the last has left.

All Clients must remain outside the Salon at all times of drop off and collection.

Groomer will meet the client at the front door, wearing PPE, and provide a slip lead for the owner to place on their dog in order that the dogs own lead, collar/harness can be removed by the owner and not be brought into the salon.

Cats or dogs that arrive in a basket/carrier will be presented with a small animal crate at the door for drop off, again without any collar, lead or carrier entering the salon etc.

Once groom has been completed and owner attends the salon to collect, the same procedure of wearing PPE, face mask and gloves must be worn by staff. The owner will place the lead collar/harness onto their own dog and return the slip lead to the groomer.

Payment will be preferably by card machine, which must be disinfected with antibacterial wipes following each use. If client pays by cash, please ask for the correct money and ask them to pace this into a cash bag that will be given to them. Avoid contact with cash where possible and dispose of gloves if direct contact with cash has occurred.

During Groom

Staff must wear PPE, face mask and gloves when admitting dogs/cats.

Hand strip procedures MUST be carried out whilst still wearing gloves and face mask

All other grooms MUST commence with bathing, where the staff member MUST continue to wear gloves and mask. Gloves must be removed and left in the bath for separate disposal.

Post grooming cleaning procedure

In order to prevent cross contamination, all tables, bath and floor must be cleared of all hair and disinfected, with the animal safe products provided, between each client. Animals from the same household would have this procedure once both have been collected.

End of day cleaning procedure

At close of salon, all floors and hard surfaces must be cleared, swept and disinfected. All PPE must be thrown away and the waste bin liner, tied securely, and placed in the refuse container for collection.

All towels and soft materials to be placed onto wash, including all staff grooming clothes. Shoes should be wiped with disinfection materials.

Risk Assessment Review

The Covid 19 Risk Assessment procedures will be reviewed in four weeks’ time or at such a time that Government guidelines/instructions alter in relation to Covid 19.
